CHARLIE PATNODE

Charlie PatnodeCharlie Patnode started his law enforcement career in 1993 and has been a member of the Texas Police Association since that time. He currently serves as a Civil Process deputy for the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office where he started in September of 2019 after retiring from the University of Texas System Police, UTSP, with 26 years of service.Charlie Patnode started his law enforcement career in 1993 and has been a member of the Texas Police Association since that time. He currently serves as a Civil Process deputy for the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office where he started in September of 2019 after retiring from the University of Texas System Police, UTSP, with 26 years of service.

During his tenure with UTSP, Charlie served as a Police Inspector II for the Office of the Director of Police and managed the Advanced Rapid Response Emergency Scenario Training (ARREST) Program Manager. The ARREST program was created in 2016 at the UTSP Academy and consists of training on a 300 degree MILO simulator, breaching complex, vehicle close quarters battle, and live fire on the firing range. He was also an ALERRT instructor teaching cadets and in-service. In 2011 he was appointed the Training Coordinator and Rangemaster for the UT System Police which includes 14 institutions and the Office of the Director. He ensured regulatory compliance for 600 UT sworn officers with regards to training and firearms qualifications. Charlie taught for the UT System Police Academy and was a Subject Matter Expert in firearms, DWI enforcement, Transportation Code, and the Code of Criminal Procedure. He was responsible for conducting Internal Affairs investigations and reviewing police officer negligent firearms discharges at the various campuses.

Prior to transferring to the Office of Director, Charlie served 18 years with the UT San Antonio Police Department where he served as a Training Sergeant, Investigations Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant and Patrol Officer. Charlie was also the evidence custodian for UTSA PD until he transferred.

Charlie served on the Bexar County DWI Taskforce, served as an adjunct instructor for the Alamo Area Law Enforcement Academy, Middle Rio Grande Law Enforcement Academy, and the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). He has presented training to police counterparts in Mexico through Global Ties International.

In 2017, Charlie was fortunate enough to attend the FBI National Academy – 270th Session. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Sul Ross State University (2015), a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from UT San Antonio (1995), and is a graduate of the Texas Police Chief’s Association “Developing Leaders for Texas Law Enforcement” (2010). He has competed in Cowboy Action Shooting since 2004 and has first place awards at the State, Regional, National, World, and European Championships.
